Hi all,

I've just moved to Backford and would be very interested to hear if anyone can recommend any walks in the area. Even better, does anyone know if there are any written routes or guide books.

I would be interested in putting together a collection of local walks to share with the community. Something similar to this.

Any input would be warmly welcomed.

Thanks all.

David.

Hello David

Thanks for post and welcome to Backford!

I have sent your post to the VH committee members for appropriate comments and help.
As far as I am aware such a guide doesn't exist but I wait to be corrected!

There are of course many public footpaths locally but my current favourite walk
is along the canal (in my case from Mollington) to Telfords Warehouse in town!

regards

Hello David,

Thanks for your suggestion and as a walker and map-lover (and collector) I would be happy to help with production of a walks leaflet for this area. I havn't seen the Appleton one before but there are good full colour leaflets for some parishes in the county

I'm sure that there are good possibilities for walks based on the canal (and linking up to routes into Chester as Stephen has suggested), though some of the public footpaths are said to be in need of attention.

Perhaps we could arrange a small group to meet and discuss this idea further ?

Michael

Hello David (again) and Mike

Mike is correct about the state of our footpaths and it's a subject
I've been recently contemplating.

A small, very informal group have undertaken a few small local initiatives
under the self-styled M.U.G.G. (Mollington Urban Guerilla Group).
Planned next on the job sheet is a tidy-up-the-footpaths action so perhaps
we could all co-operate in this 'walk and clear' thought??

regards

Stephen

For those who are interested, you can see the public footpaths by using the CWAC mapping site and entering a postcode (say CH1 6NJ - Townfield Lane), then expand to show the area you need to look at. Then select the "+" in the overlaid menu bar and from the drop-down expand "Leisure and Culture" and select "Bridleways" and "Footpaths" and "Add Selected Layer" before closing. You will then be able to see all the public footpaths and bridleways.
